At the end of "The Empire Strikes Back," several limited gifts were presented to key cast and crew members. This item is one such gift.
Assembled by master model makers at Industrial, Light & Magic these droids were actually model kits manufactured by MPC after the first Star Wars film.
They have been meticulously hand painted and "weathered" by the same craftsmen that worked on the original models used in the film. You can see the smallest detail; from 3-PO's wiring harness, to the small nicks and scratches in R2's dome.
Mounted on a black acrylic base, this is one of the rarer items to have survived over the years.
